This year has been a challenging one for the Green Keeping team, but we are now back playing and I hope you agree, the course has been well looked after during lockdown.
We have set up a series of blogs that show what Head Greenkeeper Alan King and his team are busy doing to maintain the Golf Course.
The tee sheets are almost fully booked every day and we are very encouraged that things are looking much brighter for golfers.
As we move into April and with the weather warming up there are signs of new growth everywhere and overall I would say that we are in pretty good shape.
There has been plenty of work going on during lockdown with particular focus upon greens maintenance. The greens have been tined to aid aeration and drainage, they have also been verti cut and fertilised. We have also brought the height of cut down to 4mm and they have been rolled. Hopefully, if you’ve already played, you will have had the benefits of this work and made some “monster” putts.
The tees have also been fertilised and divoted, fairways cut, and the semi rough is being tackled shortly. Although we have redistributed a lot of sand in the bunkers, this work remains ongoing.
That covers everything for this month. Alan and his team look forward to another busy few months of improvements and presenting the course to a high standard. We hope the weather stays dry enough for good golfing conditions to continue and we look forward to seeing everyone back out enjoying golf once again here at Dummer.
Alan King is our Head Greenkeeper at Dummer Golf Club. He is in charge and responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Golf Course.
